Community Action Opportunities Head Start Program

is currently taking applications for the 2024-2025 school year.

To apply for February, March, and April 2024, call the main office at 828-252-2495 and ask for a Family Service Associate.

Two-step Application Process:

Step One: Complete and submit this online Pre-Application.

Step Two: Complete an in-person eligibility interview.

A staff member will contact you to set up an appointment.

An application is NOT complete until both steps have been completed.

If you have previously submitted an application to the CAO Head Start Program for any child, please contact us by phone at 828-252-2495.

Applying does not guarantee that your child will be enrolled. Enrollment is based on eligibility and the needs of the child/family.

Head Start Eligibility Guidelines:

1. Age: Head Start serves children between the ages of 3-5 years.

A child must be 3 years old by August 31, 2024.

2. Income: 90% of families served must be under 100% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

3. Disability: 10% of children served must have diagnosed special needs.
